Abstract
As someone intimately involved in Tsung-Dao Lee Institute's (TDLI) development, I'm thrilled to share our journey and our 2035 Vision. Since 2016, TDLI, nestled within Shanghai Jiao Tong University, has become a pivotal research center in theoretical and experimental physics. Our focus centers on unraveling the origins and evolution of matter at the very beginning of the universe, driving our pioneering projects.
TDLI boasts cutting-edge infrastructure in and beyond Shanghai. In Shanghai, we operate the Laboratory Astrophysics Platform, the Topological Material Platform, and a High-Performance Computing Platform. Across China, we are developing PandaX dark matter detector at the 2400m deep Jinping underground laboratory, TRIDENT deep-sea neutrino telescope, and JUST Spectroscopic Telescope in Qinghai for exploring the dark universe. These facilities span Astronomy, Astrophysics, Condensed Matter, and Particle and Nuclear Physics to support our scientific exploration, offering compelling opportunities for students and researchers.
Aligned with our 2035 vision, TDLI nurtures a dynamic academic environment, offering competitive Tsung-Dao Lee PhD scholarship and Tsung-Dao Lee postdoctoral scholarship. With over 250 seminars, 20 workshops, and 6 academic schools in 2023, TDLI epitomizes the convergence of academic excellence and groundbreaking research. Come and learn about our quest for infinity, steeped in the spirit of 李所(LiSuo) culture!

Professor Zhang is a prominent scientist for his pioneering contribution in laser-plasma physics and high energy density physics. He was elected Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2003, member of Germany Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in 2007, Fellow of the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in 2008, Foreign member of Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng) in 2011 and foreign associate of American National Academy of Sciences (NAS) in 2012. In 2015, he was awarded, by the American Nuclear Society, the Edward Teller Medal, which represents the most important recognition in the field of laser fusion physics and high energy density physics in the world. In 2021, he was awarded the Future Science Prize in physical science, which is one of the most prestigious prizes in China.
Professor Zhang was the President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in the period of 2006-2017. He is a strong advocator and outstanding practitioner of higher education. As the youngest president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University since 1949, Professor Zhang brought vitality, creativity and passion to the University. Under his leadership, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has made remarkable progress on its way to a world-class university. In the period of 2017-2018, he served as the Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2019, he was elected the President of Chinese Physical Society in 2019. He was elected the President of Shanghai Association for Science and Technology in 2023.
