Expert Sharing Seminar on 30 April 2024
Speaker Dr. Chun ZHANG, Director of Sensing Devices and Integration of ASTRI
Date 30 April 2024 (Tuesday)
Time 15:45-16:45
Venue Chen Kuan Cheng Forum (Lecture Theatre H), HKUST (Lifts 27-28)
Seminar Overview:

Digital Tree management: Tree management in Hong Kong is an important aspect of the city's urban planning and environmental conservation efforts. In Hong Kong more than one million trees are registered and managed by the government. Particularly, regular tree maintenance and pruning are carried out to ensure public safety and tree health. The government's tree management teams conduct inspections, assess risks, and carry out necessary pruning or removal operations as required. Therefore, advanced sensing technologies are needed for the measurement of various parameters that monitor tree health and environment risk, such as: hyperspectral imaging for leave colour, acoustic tomography for trunk cavity, and ground probing radar for root distribution. In this presentation, the above-mentioned sensing technologies for the foster of digital tree management will be discussed.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Chun ZHANG obtained PhD in Physics at HKUST in 1999. He then worked at UC Berkeley for four years, at NAMI for eight years, and at ASTRI for thirteen years, continuing his pursuit of optical and acoustic sensing. He is now the Director of Sensing Devices and Integration of ASTRI, supervising the developments of leading technologies in digital jewellery inspection, portable environmental sensor, and smartphone spectrometer.
