Center for Fundamental Physics
The Center for Fundamental Physics (CFP) at HKUST was established in April 2013 as a platform for collaboration in fundamental physics.
It has become clear that many key issues in fundamental physics (which broadly includes particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology) are deeply intertwined. In the long term, CFP provides a platform for Hong Kong to contribute significantly to these global endeavors. Making substantial contributions requires a confluence of expertise in a variety of fields.
  • To develop a comprehensive research program in particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology, the first such in Hong Kong.
  • To lead Hong Kong in participating in global scientific projects especially where critical mass (and also a unified external face that displays that critical mass) is essential.
Role in Hong Kong and the region
  • The Center will be the flagship of fundamental physics research in Greater China.
  • It will be the focal point for scientists from various disciplines within HKUST and its partner institutions to meet and collectively solve problems in fundamental physics.
  • It will train young scientists who are at the forefront of one of the hottest fields in science and technology.
