Pursuing your career advance in an innovation and technology company - Driven by the growing prosperity of local innovation, there are more and more tech-based small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) actively providing job vacancies to fresh graduates. However, the students may still not fully understand how to plan their potential career advance path in such a new and dynamic environment. In this talk, Mr. Brian Chow, an M. Phil. graduate from our physics department, will tell his own experience of working on technology marketing for the advanced material products in Lumi Technology Company. Dr. Shuyu Chen will tell the same story from the employer’s point of view. Hopefully, the talk will help the students to be better armed before deciding to join tech-based SMEs.
Dr. Shuyu Chen (Director, Lumi Technology Co., Ltd.)
Dr. Shuyu Chen received his B.S. in physics from Zhejiang University in 2006 and Ph.D. in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from HKUST in 2011. He is an expert in commercializing advanced functional material technologies. In 2014, Dr. Chen founded the Acoustic Metamaterials Group (AMG), the global industry leader in metamaterials. AMG is the world’s first company that provides industrial-scale noise control solution using mass-produced acoustic metamaterials. Dr. Chen is the co-founder of Raze Technology Co., which pioneers the disinfection and sterilization using nano-functional materials.
Dr. Chen and his team were acknowledged by several awards, including the Gold Medal with the Congratulations of Jury of the 45th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, 2019 Hong Kong Awards for Industries: Technological Achievement Certificate of Merit, etc.
Mr. Brian Chow (Project Manager, Lumi Technology Co., Ltd.)
Mr. Brian Chow obtained his MPhil degree in Physics in HKUST in 2020. Specialized in electronic properties of nanostructured materials. After his graduation, he joined Lumi Technology as the Project Manager. With his knowledge in nanoscience and semiconductor physics, he helps coordinating the marketing activities and day to day operations management of the R&D department.
