Teaching Pattern

Content
  • Optical fiber waveguides: ray theory, slab waveguide, step index and grade index fibers
  • Transmission characteristics of optical fiber: attenuation, intramodal and intermodal dispersion, scatterings
  • Fiber fabrication, cables and passive components
  • Optical sources: laser diode, light emitting diode
  • Optical detectors: p-i-n photodiodes, avalanche photodiode detector
  • Optical fiber systems: direct and coherent detections (if time permits)
 
Remarks
  • Exclusion: ELEC 4620
