Transition from Physics to Finance – A personal career journey – In this talk, I will be sharing my personal career experience from physics to finance. I will also share several tried-and-true strategies that helped students to look for a job in quantitative finance. We will also provide several interview tips that help the students to navigate a competitive job market.


Dr. Ben Lau is currently a Senior Machine Learning Scientist at Shell Street Labs, an AI research affiliate of BFAM Partners. Dr. Lau started his career in Barclays Capital as a Rate Derivative Structurer and Exotic Interest Rate Trader in London. He later joined Complus Asset Management as a Quantitative Researcher focusing on Asian Macro EM FX and Rates. At Shell Street Labs, Dr. Lau leads a team looking to deploy advance AI/Machine Learning Methods in Trading and Portfolio Management.

Dr. Lau graduated from CUHK with a BSc in Physics (First Class Honour) in 2001 and received a PhD in Particle Physics from Princeton University.
