Professor Weikun Ge obtained his BSc degree (1965) from Peking University and PhD degree (1983) from the University of Manchester. He joined the Physics Department of HKUST in 1993. Professor Ge received Awards for Achievements in Science and Technology, from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1987, 1989 and 1994. In 1992, he was awarded Major Achievements of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Professor Ge is a member of the International Advisory Committee of the 26th International Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors (2002), chairman of the 14th National Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors (2003), and a member of the Academic Committee of the National Infrared Physics Laboratory of China. He is also a Guest Professor or Adjunct Professor of several universities and institutions in China.

Semiconductor physics: optical spectroscopy; nanoscaled semiconductor heterostructures; point defects; lattice dynamics; spintronics; and device-related material problems
